A perfect base for self-catering, Staithes has it's very own butchers shop also selling fresh vegetables and bread in addition to Whitby Seafish in Staithes, both providing good quality food on your doorstep.
The village has been a hive of artistic activity since the turn of the 20C when numerous artist have descended on the village to paint the colourful pastel cottages with their pantile rooftops and the fishing boats bobbing in the Beck.
Walk along the coastal pathway to Runswick Bay, enjoying the breathtaking views and maybe rest there for a while, it has two pubs and a cafe, and if you don't feel like walking back, try the coastal bus route.
Part of the North York Moors National Park this area has much to offer and a diversity of scenery. Just 10 minutes inland from Staithes, the moorland is especially beautiful when the heather is out, but provides stunning views with fabulous valleys.
If it's a break from cooking you're looking for then 3 local pubs along with the local bistro serve good food, along with a few cafes serving favourites such as delicious fresh crab sandwiches and homemade cakes, The Cleveland Corner Bistro, The Cod and Lobster and The Royal George are all within a few minutes walk of Longhouse.
The local fishing boats can be found in the harbour and fishing trips can be arranged.
